Privacy Policy

Grill Task ("we", "us") is a task and rewards app for families, roommates, and small teams. This policy explains, in plain language, what information Grill Task collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to the Grill Task website, web app, and the upcoming mobile app.
1. Information we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, and a password. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication - we never see or store your password ourselves.
- App content you create: tasks (titles, descriptions, due dates, point values), rewards, points earned and spent, and the links between your account and the people you connect with.
- Photos: when a task requires photo proof, the photo you submit is uploaded and attached to that task. If you set a profile picture (an emoji or a photo), it is stored on your profile and shown to the people you're linked with.
- Messages: chats you send inside Grill Task, visible only to you and the one linked person you're chatting with.
- Pairing codes: each account has one reusable 6-digit code used to link with other people. It stays valid until you generate a new one, which retires the old code.
- Technical basics: like most online services, our infrastructure provider (Google Firebase) processes standard technical information such as IP addresses and device/browser type to deliver and secure the service.
2. How we use information
- To run the app: sync your tasks, points, rewards, and photos between you and the people you're linked with, in real time.
- To send notifications you've asked for (for example, browser notifications when a task is assigned to you).
- To send reminder emails from noreply@grilltask.com when a task assigned to you is coming up on its due date (or was missed) - these are part of how the service works, and you can ask us to turn them off for your account by emailing us.
- To operate free-plan limits and Grill Task Plus subscriptions.
- To respond when you contact us.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your content for advertising.
3. Who can see your content
Grill Task is built around private links between people. Your tasks, points, rewards, proof photos, and chat messages are visible only to you and the specific person on the other side (the person who assigned or received the task, or the person you're chatting with). Security rules on our database enforce this - other users cannot read your data. You can delete any chat message you sent.
4. How long things are kept
- Proof photos are visible to the task's sender and receiver.
- Tasks, their photos, and chat messages are cleaned up automatically once they pass your plan's history window: about 30 days on Free, 180 days on Plus, and 2 years on Pro. If a paid plan ends, the shorter Free window applies from then on.
- Your points history, balances, and rewards are permanent - they're kept so what you've earned always adds up, and they contain task titles but not photos.
5. Service providers
We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, and Cloud Storage) to store and process the data described above, and Stripe to handle payments (including Apple Pay). Card numbers are handled entirely by Stripe - they never touch our servers. On the mobile app, notifications are delivered through Apple and Expo's notification services.
6. Children and families
Grill Task is made for families, and children may use it with a parent or guardian's permission and supervision. Parents/guardians can review a child's activity through their linked account and can ask us to delete a child's account and data at any time by emailing us.
7. Your choices
- Edit or delete content: you can edit your name, delete tasks you created, and unlink people at any time in the app.
- Notifications: browser notifications are off unless you turn them on, and can be turned off again in your Profile or browser settings.
- Download your history: Plus members can download their points history from the app.
- Delete your account: email us at the address below and we will delete your account and its data.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, stored on Google's infrastructure, and protected by per-user security rules. No online service can promise perfect security, but access to your content is limited to your account and the people you explicitly link with.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
